Ellerslie Eagles 105 v Kinoulton Falcons 132

Kinoulton Falcons 152 v West Bridgford Bears 110

Champions! A proud day for Kinoulton Cricket Club as their all conquering Kinoulton Falcons Kwik Cricket team secured the South Notts Kwik Cricket League with 2 resounding victories in their last two games of the season. The League was won overall with an impressive 11 victories from 12 games, giving the club their first Kwik Cricket League title since 2001.

First up, on our home ground, was a game against an improved Ellerslie side. In glorious sunshine but with a difficult cross wind, the boys were magnificent. After losing the toss and fielding, their concentration was superb as they gave the perfect fielding display, not dropping a catch, backing up every throw and with new found encouragement from one and all ringing round the ground.

The results of many Friday nights practice were there for all to see as despite their age, they looked and played as a real team, with compliments given for their perfect performance by parents, opposition parents and coaches alike.

Henry started us well, taking a wicket with his second ball, before Blake took two in his over! Daniel, Charlie and LIam then kept things tight before Tony and Ben both took wickets with good overs and Jamie bowled the last of the innings for just 2 runs.

Our usual strong bowling put us in a good position but with the wind so strong scoring for the Falcons proved tough too. Blake and Henry got us off to a good start, to put us ahead after 2 overs before Daniel and Liam added a further 11 in their two, Liam striking successive 4s.

Charlie and Tony struggled initially, losing 2 quick wickets but dug in, enabling the young old heads at the end, Ben and Jamie, to steer us home without losing a wicket.

A good batting performance from the boys after their best bowling and fielding of the season to secure the win.

With the win behind them and confidence high, the Falcons then faced their last game of the season against the only team to have beaten them all year, and the only side who could stop them winning the League. Would they buckle? No chance! Instead the Falcons continued their superb form of earlier and blew their opponents off the pitch.

Losing the toss again and this time being asked to bat, the boys were impressive from the off. Blake hitting successive fours with Henry supporting well to secure 13 off the first two overs. Liam and Daniel then put on a superb 21, with only one wicket lost but unfortunatley for Liam no 6s into the field as he had promised!

Tony and Charlie then batted sensibly, despite losing one wicket, before Jamie and Ben then hit an excellent 21 without losing a wicket in the final two overs. Both batting and calling beautifully.

Well done all round, with all batting as if in a hardball game and resisting the urge to hit across the line, with some lovely cover drives from Jamie, Ben and Tony.

So pressure on as the boys took to the field, looking determined to finish the job! What a start too as Henry bowled beautifully, taking 3 wickets in the first over, to immediately put the game out of reach for the opposition. Charlie G struggled with his bowling but then kept and encouraged brilliantly, taking a good catch behind the stumps.

Ben then took his customary wicket against their most dangerous batsman, whilst Blake and Daniel were unlucky to go for runs as they bowled well.

Liam then bowled a tight over for just 3 runs before Tony took a very deserved wicket and Jamie finished off with one of his own.

Victory secured comprehensively against the only side to have beaten the team on our only "off day" of the season.

Well done to the boys today but also for their terrific efforts throughout the season, and also for the efforts from the other members of the squad who have done so well throughout the season, but couldn’t be fitted into the team today.

The 8 boys on display today will now “retire” from Kwik cricket as League Champions, enabling them to concentrate on hardball cricket, and to give younger members of the club the chance to compete next season.

To put their efforts into perspective though, it should be remembered that Kwik cricket can be played up to school year 6, as the other teams we play against do, and of the 8 boys playing in this last set of matches, only Tony would be too old to play next year.  Of the remainder:

Daniel – eligible for 1 more season

Liam – eligible for 1 more season

Blake – eligible for 2 more seasons

Charlie – eligible for 2 more seasons

Henry – eligible for 2 more seasons

Ben – eligible for 3 more seasons

Jamie – eligible for 3 more seasons

Surely the youngest team ever to win the League! The future for the club is bright and well done again to one and all. Kinoulton Falcons - Tony, Daniel, Liam, Blake, Charlie G, Henry, Ben, Jamie

June 27th

Plumtree 161 Kinoulton Falcons 192

Kinoulton Eagles 106 Kinoulton Falcons 171

Two good performances from the all conquering Falcons secured two good wins. In the first game Plumtree posted a good target despite strong bowling performances from Kieron and Liam. Credit too to young Toby Horne for stepping into the breach as we were let down by a very late drop out. The batting performance though was terrific, blowing Plumtree away. Blake and Henry set the tone with 21 off their 2 overs, before Liam and Toby then added a further 33, Liam hitting 3 sixes in his innings. Daniel and Kieran then continued the good work with 23. This left the teams 8 year old old heads, Ben and Jamie, to put on a masterclass against Plumtrees best bowlers, scoring 21 but calling and backing each others judgement beautifully, nicking singles when 4s were nor possible. A pleasure to watch. The second game for the Falcons was won comfortably against our younger team but well done to all for concentrating throughout. All batted and bowled well, with the game played in a very good spirit. Congratulations in particular to Toby on our team again for playing at short notice, doing well and letting no-one down, and to Olivia for the Eagles who at the age of just 5, bowled overarm and fielded well throughout despite being up against some 10 year olds and her big brother! Well done to one and all, the future for Kinoulton is bright.

Liam, Daniel, Kieran, Blake, Henry, Toby, Ben, Jamie

June 20th;

Kinoulton Falcons 169 v West Bridgford Beavers 119
Kinoulton Falcons 131 v Plumtree Tigers 124

Two good performances by the Falcons secured two well deserved wins.

The first game of the morning saw an excellent batting performance with only 1 wicket lost in the innings. Liam and Jack seeing the team off to a flying start with 19, before Tom and Ben consolidated. Credit to Tom as he played really well all morning, stepping up to the big boys team!

Tony and Charlie G then tucked into the bowling, scoring 28, Charlie hitting his first ball for a 6, before both scored plenty of 4s.
Finally Daniel and Jamie added a controlled 16 defending sensibly when necessary and scoring when the opportunity arose.
All boys then bowled well, Jack keeping tidily behind the wicket as well as bowling a good over, with credit again to Tom for his bowling, conceding only 1 run off his over, whilst Tony and Daniel both took deserved wickets to secure a comfortable victory.
The game against Plumtree was certainly closer though. Fielding first the team again bowled very well, Tony excelling with 2 wickets in his over, as great catches were taken by Ben and Charlie G behind the stumps.
The batting then started badly as suprisingly Liam was out first ball before he and Jack recovered from a poor first over to whack a huge 17 in their second over, albeit with some potentially suicidal running which somehow they got away with!
Tony and Tom then found it tough to score against some good bowling but did the sensible thing and made sure that no wickets were lost by playing straight.
Daniel and Charlie were next in and had an excellent first over before unfortunately losing a wicket, leaving the game therefore in the balance.
However, with the teams reliable young guns Jamie and Ben to bat last, confidence was still high. An excellent first over for the pair saw them hit 7, before a further 5 in their second over, defending again when needed, ensured a close but completely deserved win.
It was a pleasure to see them both be aware of the situation and the need to bat straight and sensibly, knowing that a win would come if they didn't lose a wicket which they ensured was the case.
Well done to all 8 of the boys again for two more wins in an excellent season so far.

June 13th ; Kinoulton Falcons 137 v West Bridgfordians 152

Kinoulton Falcons 192 v Ellerslie Little Bounders 99.

A disappointing day for the Falcons with two very different games. The second against Ellerslie was a bit of a mis-match to say the least, which the boys won too comfortably for it to be enjoyable. The first though was the Falcons first defeat of the season, when for once their normally destructive batting let them down. Bowling first the team started well, Liam conceding only one run off his over and Jamie only 3. Charlie G was excellent behind the stumps, with all fielding well, Kieron and Charlie K notably backing up every throw, and Kieron taking a catch off his own bowling. Jamie nearly pulled off the catch of the season so far by brilliantly sliding to catch the ball cleanly but unfortunately the ball had already gone for 6. The batting started very well, Blake and Charlie G hitting a huge 20 in their 2 overs and all looked good. Unfortunately though, none of the other pairs really got going after that and despite the best efforts of Tony and Ben at the end of the game, a first defeat was suffered.

Liam, Tony,Blake, Charlie G, Charlie K, Kieron, Ben, Jamie.

6th June Kinoulton Falcons 153 v Kinoulton Eagles 130

An excellent game of cricket between the two Kinoulton teams, with the generally older side winning out, but some excellent play on both sides. Falcons batted first and Charlie G and Jack got the team off to a good start. Blake and Ben then upped the scoring rate before Liam and Charlie K scored 27, the team losing only one wicket throughout. Excellent Eagle bowling from Thomas Northedge..Eagles got off to a good start with the bat, despite losing a wicket to the first ball from Charlie K with a good Jamie catch, before Blake and Henry tied the batsmen down. Jack taking a good catch behind the stumps in the process.Jamie kept the pressure up with a very tight over before Liam and Ben bowled well to secure the victory. Credit to both sides for an excellent game.

Plumtree Tigers 127
Kinoulton Falcons 146
and
Plumtree Lions 124
Kinoulton Falcons 166

Aussie style conditions greeted the Falcons last Sunday when they arrived at Ellerslie's ground to face both the Plumtree Tigers and Lions.

Our captain for the day, Ben won both tosses and each time elected to field first.

Against Plumtree Tigers, solid bowling from all eight players along with good teamwork in the field restricted the Tigers to 127 including 3 wickets. Wickets from Ben and Daniel along with accurate bowling from Tom, Kieran and Henry all helped. In reply, the Falcons scored steadily to reach 146 and only lost a wicket in the final over.

In the second game, Plumtree Lions struggled to 124 including 4 wickets thanks to more excellent bowling and fielding from the whole team. Highlights included Charlie G's wicket-keeping, a spectacular diving catch at cover by Liam and two catches at long on by Blake. Batting last, four 6s in a row from Liam and 26 off one over from Blake saw the Falcons off to a flying start. The remainder of the team batted carefully to help the Falcons to a final score of 166 with one wicket lost and a second win. Well done!

Kinoulton Falcons 154 v Ellerslie Little Bounders 120

Kinoulton Falcons 181 v West Bridgford Beavers 111

Kinoulton Falcons started their Kwik cricket season in impressive style, winning both their opening games comprehensively. The batting was great by all 8 players, and remarkably the boys lost only one wicket in two matches!

In the first game Charlie G got the team off to a flyer with his best ever batting, with Kieron and Henry putting on the biggest partnership in the match. Charlie K bravely kept out their best bowler with some good shots whilst Blake found the boundary regularly.

In the field the boys were excellent too, all bowling well, with Ben Lumb taking two wickets in his over, whilst bowling as accurately as ever, with Jack superb behind the stumps, as the boys won in style.

In their second game, Jamie set the tone, smashing the ball to all parts, but again all batted superbly to score a huge 181 without losing a wicket, pleasingly as well with some excellent running between the wickets, particularly by Charlie K and Ben.

This time the team fielded and bowled even better still, backing up throws and walking in with the bowler - proper cricket! Henry again bowled really well in his first match, with Ben and Jamie both nearly bowling rare maiden overs, helped by Jacks excellent alert wicket keeping, as both beat batsmen for pace. Highlight of the fielding and the day though was Kieron with a superb athletic sliding stop that saved a certain four and showed the determination and skill of the boys. Well done to one and all.

Team - Kieron Greenwood, Henry Horne, Blake Southwell, Jack Tebbutt, Charlie Kay, Charlie Gaskell, Ben Lumb, Jamie Gilbertson
