2011 Match Reports

First match in Division Two saw the club pull off a fantastic win against the odds. Several players not available, Mo not arriving meant the team only had 8 players and what a performance.

Captain Fox marshalled his troops well, keeping behind the stumps, having to bowl and taking two wickets. Tom Homes, Matt Robinson, Adam France, Mark Towle and Tariq also bowled well to restrict the hosts to 205 all out. Tariq being the star with 6-24 off 10 overs.

Could we get runs was the question during tea; Yes was the amswer. Tom Richards opened with the Captain but Fox was soon bowled for 8. Mark Towle joined Tom and these two played the innings of their lives, hitting the ball to all areas of the ground. Tom was explosive and was finally out for 112, his first century of the season. A match winning innings. Tariq came and went, it was left ot ark 52 not out and Tom Holmes 18 not out to see the team home by 7 wickets.

Well done to the famous 8!!!!

Match Report Kin v Whissendine Kin 166-8 Whiss 163. Kin win by 2wkts 20 points.

Moans in the dressing room as the Skipper lost the toss. Whissendine took first use of a good track, Minchin and Holmes opened the attack, both bowling a good line and length. Minchin was the first to strike, bowling Winn for 14. Holmes not to be outdone had Budgeon caught by the youthful Fox. Davies then  dropped  the new batsman, Minchin glared in disgust, then gave way to Ruman, fresh from his 6wkt haul on Saturday. Captain Richards introduced Tariq.. It’s a long time since the home side boasted an all spin attack. It proved fruitful as wickets began to tumble and would have been even better if several offered chances had been taken. Captain David
being one of the offenders, poor eyesight, where can we hide him thought nephew Tom. Lloyd with some hard hitting backed by Bates took the score to 163 before the innings closed in the 40th over.
Tom Richards and Fox opened the innings, Fox soon departed for 9, Davies followed soon after for 7. Tariq joined Tom,  both began to play some excellent shots and put together a match winning partnership which was interrupted by a severe facial injury to the visiting bowler Keith Sharkey. Ambulance called for, Keith was on his way to the QMC for treatment.
The innings resumed but the momentum seemed to have been lost. Wickets tumbled, Tom was out for an excellent 70, Tariq followed for 26, Mark Towle 0, Cameron Good 1 and Ruman 3; 131-7 The visitors sensed victory, their ground fielding on the fast outfield was excellent.

Will Minchin was joined by Tom Holmes, they took the score to 150 before Holmes was run out trying to take a short single. Meanwhile Will was playing some delightful shots, he was joined by the skipper and these two saw the side to a deserved victory.

Thanks to Jane for doing her first cricket tea, it was excellent and to Katie for her scrumptious cakes. Great fielding, sorry you did not get a bat but you did tell me to go in before you !!!!!!!!

VS THORPE ARNOLD GOLDING CUP

We were playing our first ever match in the Golding Cup. Thorpe Arnold won the toss and batted first but soon lost wickets to Minchin and Campbell. The home side stageda recovery through Gilliat and Leaf before both were dismissed by Shaz. It was left toRoberts and Folds to take the score past 200.

The visitors got off to a reasonable start through Baker (21) and Fox (11). both were out in quick succession. Wiles followed soon after ( 14), Shaz (26) and Campbell (23) halted the slide with a run a ball partnership taking the score past a 100. These two were out, Tom Richards ( 48) and Sham (49no) shared a winning partnership before Tom was bowled for 48. Mark Towle (10no) joined Sham and these two saw the visitors home by 3 wickets. Next round Belton Park at home.

............................................................................

SILEBY 247-7 KIN 248-8 WIN BY 4 WKTS 28PTS

Sileby won the toss and batted on a good wicket. Preston and Hallett were soon in their stride and were taking runs at ease off  Holmes and Minchin. Ruman was introduced into the attack after 8 overs with the score at 65 and immediately bowled Hallett for 33. It was to be his only success because new batsmen Hackett with Preston put on 130 at 6 over for the 2nd wicket. Minchin switched ends, Tariq was introduced, Holmes returned all to no avail. Runs came at ease especially with this very fast outfield and windy conditions.
Captain David Richards worked hard in trying to keep his players in the game because he knew a run chase of below 260 was within their grasp. Mark Towle was introduced from the pavilion end for his first Sunday bowl of the season and how he responded to the Captain’ belief. He struck immediately having Hackett caught by Fox for 56 and in the next over Preston holed out to Ruman at long off for 109.
Will Minchin returned for his final two overs with the score at 215 -3 and wickets tumbled  as the hosts wanted to get the score past 250. Will finished with 2-39 off 10 overs and Mark with excellent figures of 6overs 4-25. It would have been even better if the Captain had accepted a simple chance at short extra cover.
Final score of 247-7. Apart from Holmes confidence was high in the visitors dressing room and the run chase was on, all we needed was for Fox and Tom Richards to lay the foundation.
They both began at blistering pace and at one stage the score was 7 an over, both were hitting anything short and playing some delightful cricket. The opening stand reached 86 before Fox was bowled for 44. Tariq joined Tom and these two continued to play some excellent shots, Tariq playing the supporting role and using his experience for the situation.
After the drinks break both seemed to lose some of their concentration because after a  century stand both were out in quick succession, Tom caught at short square trying to place the one run for a deserved century and then Tariq (33) bowled trying a lofted drive.
Cameron (6) Mark Towle(0) and Ruman(4) followed soon after 203-6, game on but once again controlled batting from Will Minchin (28no) and Tom Holmes(6no) saw the team to victory by 4wkts in the 32nd over.
An excellent game of cricket and a well deserved team victory that stuck to the task well and in the end got the rich desserts.

KIN 268-6 RADCLIFFE ROVERS 79. KIN WIN BY 189 RUNS. FRIENDLY.

Kinoulton entertained Radcliffe Rovers in a friendly match because Belton Park could not raise a team for the Golding Cup match.
The hosts batted first, the toss being won by the Fox. Will Minchin was promoted to open the innings with Tom Richards and they scored 79 for the first wicket before Minchin was out driving at Brears for a good 28. Tariq joined Tom, these two once again batted well, playing excellent shots to all parts of the ground against some in different bowling. Tom was next to go for 78 caught at deep long leg going for his 5th six of his innings. Tariq continued to accumulate runs despite losing the wickets of Wiles (0) Towle (7) and Malik (20) cheaply. He finally scored the single that took him to his maiden century for the club, the jubilation had hardly died down when he was bowled by Holt trying to cut the ball to the point boundary. The hosts finished on 268 -6.

Ali and Tom Holmes opened the bowling, the visitors raced to 34 before the 1st wicket fell, Ali having Dennett caught by Minchin at short extra cover. Wickets tumbled at regular intervals as the visitors had no answer to the home bowling attack. 79 all out, Ali finishing with 4-11, Jamie Birch with his first bowl of the season 4-16, Ruman and Tom Holmes picking up the other two wickets. The team winning by a massive 189 runs.

KINOULTON VS HARLAXTON

Another cold and blustery day at Kinoulton the visitors won the toss and elected to bat. The home team missing several players opened with Mo and Tom Holmes, both struggled to find line and length, this was to be a feature of all the bowlers apart from  Mark Towle.
The visiting batsmen made full use of this with Davidson (29) Woodhead (23) Parker (28) being well supported by Chalk who reached a deserved 50 before being run out in the 37 over. The innings closed on 198 -7 with extras being the 2nd highest score 46. Youngster Mark Towle (10-0-23-4) being the pick of the bowlers in what was a very ragged display by the home team. .
Captain David Richards asked his players to respond with the bat and redeem themselves from the poor performance in the field. Openers Tom Richards (66) and Steve Fox (36) gave the team the start that was asked for with a stand of 90 in less than 12 0vers. Both were out in quick succession, Tariq steadied the ‘ship’ and he remained firm while batsmen got themselves in and then out Maj (13), Towle(11), Mo(15). The visitors battled hard both with their fielding and bowling.
Tariq was bowled by Davidson for 38 with 12 runs still required, Ruman followed quickly for (1) and it was left to Tom Holmes to see the team to victory in the 32nd over by 3 wickets.

KINOULTON VS COLSTERWORTH

Dave Richards won the toss and had no hesitation in batting first on a
hard wicket with a fast outfield despite windy and cloudy conditions.
The bowlers were finding it difficult to find line and length, extras
proved to be considerable in the final total. Openers Tom Richards (6)
and the Fox (15) were soon back in the pavilion bowled by Atter.
It was left to Tariq (58) Cameron Good (12) and Mark Towle (26) to push
the score past 150 before Tom Holmes and Will Minchin figured in an
unbroken stand of 72 in less than 10 overs which took the match away
from the visitors who tried seven bowlers in an attempt to stem the flow
of runs Will finished 44 not out and Tom 22 not out.The visitors were
thankful for the tea interval, sandwiches, pasta salad, fruit and a hot
cup of tea, courtesy of Jill.
After stealing the show with the bat, Will and Tom took the ball, backed
by some good fielding and poor batting from the visitors, they blew them
away for a total of just 46 in 17-5 overs, only Captain Edwards offered
resistance with a solid 23. Young Minchin finished with a 5 wicket haul
which included his first ever hatrick (7-2-14-5). Holmes 3-27,  Campbell
and Ruman claiming the other wickets. A resounding win by 196 runs.

SPROXTON 62AO KIN 197-6 19PTS WIN BY 135 RUNS

|Back to winning ways, on a beautiful hot sunny afternoon Dave won the toss and elected to bat on what was a used wicket. Fox and Richards were soon in their stride scoring runs at ease until Richards nudged behind to Watchorn off Dearden for 23. Tariq joined Fox and these two hit the ball to all parts of the ground. Bowler Jessop was getting some assistance from the wicket and he eventually bowled Fox (41) and Tariq (25) in quick succession. Wiles was given out LBW by his Captain for 3. Youngsters Will Minchin and Mark Towle came together at 104 -4 and with a partnership of 54 halted the slide before Minchin was bowled for an excellent 36. Ruman came in ahead of Tom Holmes and proceeded to put bat to ball. Towle trying to force the pace was caught and bowled for 30. Holmes joined Ruman and these two took the score to 197 -6 just failing to claim the 5th batting point.

Captain Dave was happy with the score and he expected the wicket to get more difficult  for scoring runs. Minchin and Holmes opened the bowling , the former claiming two wickets in his first two overs. His opening spell was 6-3-11-2. He was replaced by Ruman . He tore through the home defences  ably supported by Mark Towle and Jamie Birch. Ruman finished with 5-11. The hosts were all out for 62 giving a winning margin of 135 runs. Other highlights included Holmes dropping  a skier, Fox having a two over break in the pavilion and the Captain firstly dropping another catch and then being out run by Wilo when chasing the ball !!!! What ever next !!!! A great tea, cream scones and then to finish at the the end of the match, samosas c/o Ruman and Tariq.

CUP KIN 123-3 PICKWELL 122 AO

KINOULTON THROUGH TO SEMIS VS BARKBY 31ST JULY

Missing several players Captain Dave won the toss and inserted the visitors. Openers Clayton and Woods began slowly but in confident mood against Holmes and Sham. The introduction of Campbell, Hussain and Ruman changed the game. Campbell striking first bowling Woods for 36, Ruman bowled the new batsman Burton for 0 immediately. Wickets began to tumble and when Ruman had Clayton stumped by Fox for 39, the visitors were in all sorts of trouble at 90-6. Mooney (11) and Stares (10) tried to rally but once Huss and Ruman dismissed them in quick succession the innings closed on 122 after 33 overs. Ruman 5-23, Campbell 3-23 and Hussain 2-21 did the damage backed by tight fielding especially from young France.
Tom Richards and Fox began the reply both were soon in their stride taking 5runs of each of the first few overs. Fox was the first to go for 17 caught at mid on. Tariq came in next and with Tom took the score to 70 before Tariq was caught behind for 16. Campbell joined Tom who was now settled,  these two took the team to victory in the 20th over, Richo finishing on 44no and Campbell 32 no.
A good team performance and now  a place in the semi – final against Barkby.

VS WHISSENDINE

Whissendine won the toss and asked us to take first use of what the Skipper described as a dusty, dry, bowler friendly wicket. He was not wrong as the hosts opening bowler Vickers, put the ball in the right areas assisted by the variable bounce, dismissing the top order for only 11 runs, only Fox stood firm. Richards, Tariq and Wiles were back in the pavilion with only 10 on the board. Fox and Mark Towle back from his jaunt round Europe with his side kick Birch, stemmed the loss of wickets for a few overs until Vickers struck again, having him caught at point for 12. Fox soon  followed for a defiant 30, Holmes was given out LBW by his Captain to a ball  which kept very low .This brought Cameron Goode and  Will Minchin together, they saw off Vickers whose excellent spell produced 4-40 off 10 overs.

The two youngsters took the game to the hosts with some excellent hitting, figuring in a 7th wicket partnership of 53 before Cameron was caught at long leg for 27.

Will then figured in two run outs, firstly Mo for 4 and then Katie Bailey for 0. Will was eventually last out, bowled by opening bowler Selmes for 46, leaving the Captain stranded on 1.  Final score 137 which gave us something to defend.

Holmes and Minchin opened the bowling and it was the latter who struck first bowling their Captain Winn for 11. Starkey (14) and Mackie (14) took the score to 46 before Holmes had Starkey caught behind by Fox. Mackie was LBW to Mo who along with Mark Towle had been introduced into the attack. These two dictated the rest of the game, only Lloyd offered any resistance before he holed out to Tom Richards at deep long leg off the bowling of Mark Towle. The hosts were eventually bowled out for 99 giving us victory by 38 runs. Mo finished with excellent figures of 9.3 overs 4m 5-12 and Towle 3-30 off 8 overs. The two bowlers were well supported by the fielders in their ground fielding and their catching. Well done to Katie who never missed a ball but she has marked Minchin’s card for running her out !!!!!!

VS SILEBY

The top of the table clash proved to be an easy victory for us. Several players missing, acting Captain the Fox lost the toss and was asked to take first use of a good wicket. Tariq and Fox opened the innings, batting carefully, waiting for the bad ball, they put on a century partnership before Tariq was bowled for 51. Fox was then out for 50, Wiles (4) and Richards (13) soon followed. Campbell and Will Minchin came together building a partnership of 42 before Minchin was bowled for 15. Towle joined Campbell, these two taking the score past 200 before Campbell went for 41. Towle continued to attack the bowling and was run out in the last over for an excellent 41. Final score 234-8.

The visitors never mastered our opening attack of Campbell and Minchin. These two bowled their allotted 20 overs conceding just 50 runs between them. Final figures Minchin 3-26 and Campbell 4-24. The visitors being bowled out for just 79, giving us a victory by 155 runs. Now for the trip to Harlaxton.

HARLAXTON 44AO KIN 46-0

We made the trip to Harlaxton with several players still missing but still proved too strong for the hosts. Captain for the day, Campbell won the toss and the hosts were asked to bat on a green and gripping wicket. Will and Shaun opened the attack with both using the new ball and conditions to their advantage backed by some sharp fielding.
Will soon trapped their opener LBW for 4 to a ball that kept low and almost immediately he had the new batsman Sharp caught behind, one handed by stand in keeper Tariq. Campbell at the other end was giving nothing away. He had Chalk caught low down by Mohammed at wide mid on and the same combination dismissed Stevenson for 11. Minchin bowled Averill for 0 and when Leadenham was run out for 0 the hosts were tottering at 30-6. There was no way back as Holmes and Ruman joined the attack. Holmes finishing it off by having Parker caught at deep long leg by Minchin and then bowling last man Geeson for 1. Campbell and Minchin bowled excellent spells which ripped the heart out of the home team, Minchin 10-1- 22-4 and Campbell 10- 5-10 -2.
Very very early tea and a rest for skipper David who had donned the Umpires coat still recovering from a leg injury.

Fox in Spain and Richards at some Festival, Tariq and Mark Singlehurst began the reply, the latter reminding everybody that in his long career he had never opened the batting. Both set off cautiously playing straight and only punishing the bad ball, both were soon in their stride and victory was achieved with all wickets intact in the 11 0ver. Mark finished with 24 (4 fours and one six) Tariq more sedately (3fours).

KINOULTON 208-9 FRISBY 201-98

In a very exciting game of cricket which went to the final over, Ruman bowling and 10 runs needed, runs taken off the first two balls, followed by two dot balls, he bowled Hogg on the fifth and we were home by 8 runs giving us promotion for the fourth season running.
We were put into bat and soon lost Fox (0) bowled by Hogg. Tom Richards (32) and Tariq (19) began to rebuild with a useful stand of 65 before Tariq was out caught behind, Richards soon followed bowled round his legs, Campbell was bowled by a delivery that kept low and the Ox promoted for a Sunday game was bowled for (8), the score stood at 106 -5. Alex Wiles playing his last innings before returning to Kent University was joined by Oz and these two added 50 vital runs before Oz was adjudged LBW umpire Birch, Oz hitting 2 maxs and 6 fours in his innings of 40.
Tom Holmes joined Wiles and these two listening to their Captain batted carefully adding a further 44 valuable runs taking the score to 200 in the 38 0ver before both were out in quick succession, Wiles for an excellent 36 and Holmes for a good 26 which included one towering six to the Nevile Drive gardens.
Skipper David Richards joined Ruman in adding a further eight runs in the last two overs seeing out the 40 overs and finishing with a score of 208-9.

Campbell and Oz opened the bowling and soon removed both openers with only 12 on the board. Harris and Freer began to build a stand, the introduction of Holmes for OZ saw Freer out for 29. Holland and Harris put together a 50 run stand. Wiles replaced Ruman at the Nevile Drive and in his first over had Holland LBW for 18 and next ball bowled Wells for (0). Some lusty blows from Caunt saw Holmes and Wiles out of the attack, back came Campbell and Ruman, the latter from the Hickling end.
Campbell removed Caunt for 28. Freer was joined by Hogg, by now the run rate was at 10 over, singles were being given, boundaries being protected and it was down to that last over.

Now for the Championship 4 points needed from the last two matches.

Kinoulton secured the  Division 2 championship with an emphatic win on a blustery afternoon at Thorpe Arnold. We won the toss and asked the hosts to take first use of a good wicket, both sides were missing several players but gladly for us BIRCH was still here.

Campbell and Holmes opened the attack and it was the former who struck first having McQuillan caught at short mid wicket by Maj.  Holmes then had the other opener caught at slip. Wickets continued to tumble Renwide (10) Keightly (1) and Williams (0). After bowling 8 overs each, the score at 50-5, Maj and Oz came into the attack.
Hickman played defiantly hitting any  short balls to the boundary. He was well supported by Plowman, Hoskey and Silen, the run rate improved until Maj  had Plowman stumped by the Fox and Oz accounted for Hoskey.
Captain Richards brought Campbell back in the 29 0ver for his last two overs and with his first ball he had the dangerous Hickman brilliantly caught by UM at backward point for (49).Silen continued to put bat to ball and he was joined by last man Exton.
Campbell finished his spell and finally BIRCH was given his chance and with his 5th ball he bowled Exton. The innings closed on 148. Campbell (10-3-19-3) and  Holmes
(9-1-24-3) were the pick of the bowlers.
Tea time - Birch said he should have bowled much earlier and wickets would have tumbled sooner, that we will never know. !!!!      !
No Tom Richards, Tariq opened with Fox and these two put on 50 for the first wicket before the latter was caught at mid off for 24. Mark Singlehurst under instructions from the Captain to carry on from where he left off at Harlaxton built a steady partnership with Tariq and took the score to 81 before  Tariq was bowled for a patient 35 by a ball that kept very low.
Campbell joined and Mark and these two produced some powerful hitting through the covers and mid wicket areas finishing the match in the 26 th over. Mark reaching 45 not out, finishing the match with a 6 to the leg boundary and Shaun on 40 not out with 5 fours and two sixes.
A great win and it was into the bar for a celebratory drink, J20 for UM, MAJ TARIQ and 0Z , BEERS and STRONGBOW for the rest.

TOM HOLMES OFF TO LEEDS, A HANDSHAKE FROM THE SKIPPER THE END OF AN ERA !!!!!!

The final match of the season, Division 2 Championship assured, we entertained Sproxton. Skipper David won the toss and asked the visitors to take first use of an excellent batting track. All the front line bowlers were missing so he felt the team would be better chasing a score rather than containing a total, how right it proved to be. Oz opened from the Hickling End and his first over went for 11 runs. He was replaced immediately by Mo who bowled 10 tidy overs for 28 runs taking 2 wkts. Campbell had opened from the Nevile Drive end but found Jessop in an aggressive mood.

Maj and Umran came into the attack and both found it difficult to contain Jessop who launched over the cover boundary for his 50. Eventually he was out splendidly caught by Umran at backward point for 88 off the bowling of Tariq who had replaced Maj. Tariq switched ends to allow Campbell back into the attack and he bowled the youngster Copley on the last ball of the innings for an excellent 25. Wicketkeeper Watchorn finished with 32 not out, these two figuring in a stand of over 40 which took the score 208-6. Tariq finished with 2-25 and Campbell 1-53.
No Tom Richards so Tariq opened with Fox and these two built a stand of 93 for the first wicket before Tariq was caught at point for a carefully constructed 35. Fox was playing aggressively, with the fast outfield and several let –offs he moved past 50. Mark Singlehurst came in next and these two batted well hitting any loose ball, with the score at 152 Mark was bowled for 31. The rain was looming in the distance so Campbell and Fox decided to finish the chase in quick time. They added 60 runs in just 7 overs, Campbell for the second week running hitting a six to win the match(Yes I have got it right this time!!!!!). Campbell finishing undefeated on 31, two sixes and three fours. Fox completed his first century of the season 105 not out, well deserved. Final score 212-2 off 33 overs. Yes it did rain.

Its been another great season, an excellent team performance with some great individual performances and a very good spirit. Unbeaten away from home and only one defeat at home. Our Golding Cup debut and defeat in the semi –final to Barkby was another great effort. My aim as Captain at the start of the season was to consolidate and do as well as possible in Division 2, we have excelled  and played some good cricket, to be Champions all players can be very proud of themselves. Well Done !!!
