2010 SEASON. FIRST XI
We started the new season
with a Golding Shield Cup match against Uppingham,
the ground was in excellent shape for the time of the year and the wicket was
hard on the exterior but a tad soft underneath. Captain David Richards lost the
toss and Kinoulton were asked to bat. The innings
began badly with the Captain being run out in the very first over without
facing a ball. Alex Wiles and Steve Fox began to repair the damage and took the
score to 54 before Wiles was caught behind for12, Fox soon followed adjudged
LBW for 29.Shaun Campbell after a quiet start began to open his shoulders and
with the help of Mark Towle 12 and brother Paul 11
took the score to 140. Tom Holmes swinging went for 0 and it was left to
Campbell and Mark Singlehurst 8no to take the score to 179-6. Campbell finishing on 80 not out, hitting 5 fours and 3 sixes.
Uppingham faced the opening attack
of James Linley and Tom Holmes, both bowling a tight line. It was Holmes who
made the breakthrough in his first spell.taking two
early wickets.
Mark Towle
and Shaun Campbell joined the attack, Campbell being the more expensive of the
two, the visitors were always keeping up with the run rate.A
change of pace with the introduction of Alex Wiles and Mark Singlehurst did not
deter the visiting batsmen. The home bowlers were taking wickets. A good
stumping by Fox off Mark Towle got rid of run maker Ashwin who made 64.The visitors needed 41 off the last 8 overs and with Linley and Campbell bowling, the latter
chipping in with two wickets, one in the final over which tied the scores after
40 overs. Kinoulton took
the match by losing fewer wickets. Campbell finishing with
3-53, Holmes 2-23 and Towle 1-16.
Kinoulton win by virtue of losing fewer wickets, even though both sides scored 279 runs.
