The day got off to a bad start when captain, Shaun Campbell lost the toss and Kinoulton were elected to field on an uneven wicket. Both opening bowlers, Dave Lewis and Andy Wilcox struggled to find their line early on, but they came good to take 3 wickets between them, to leave the visitors on 47 – 3. They then recovered through some good batting from opener J Wooliscroft to reach 112 before the next wicket fell through the introduction of Steve Fox. He went on to return figures of 4 – 34 despite pulling his hamstring half way through his spell. He was well supported at the other end by spinner Steve Harling and between them they reduced the opposition to 156 – 9. However Mr Fox’s fielding was not up to the same standard as his bowling and he twice dropped Chilwell’s number eleven who helped them put on a frustrating 31 runs for the final wicket. This perhaps gave the visitors the slight advantage going into tea. Kinoulton’s reply got off to a disastrous start as they found themselves 19 – 5 off only 8 overs. The top four struggled with the inconsistent bounce and some sharp bowling from Chilwell’s openers. They did recover slightly thanks to an impressive knock from debutant Rick Lumb who finished on an unbeaten 37. The innings was eventually completed in the 24th over for a total of 83 all out. Although this was a poor performance, it must be mentioned that we finally look to have a decent wicket keeper in the shape of Malc Healy and a good acquisition in Rick Lumb. With the likes of Tom Richards, Chris Meek and Neil Radford to come back into the side, things are looking good for the season ahead.
