25 August 2007 Match Reports EDINGLEY Away 5th May Kinoulton II started the season with a well deserved victory over Edingley II after a solid all round team performance. Kinoulton II, put into bat, made a solid start with good contributions from David Richards 31 and Neil Oxby 34. This was followed by a sparkling 53 not out from Alex Wilde to get Kinoulton to a competitive 165 for 5 from 45 overs. In reply Edingley II were soon put under pressure, with Sam Jennings taking three wickets in his opening spell. Sam went on to complete a fine performance of 5 wickets for 12 runs from 9 overs. Good middle innings bowling from Alex Wilde, James Linley and Tom Bradshaw, who all took one wicket apiece always kept Edingley behind in the game. The final four wickets were mopped up by Sam Jennings and Neil Roberts and Edingley II were bowled out for 102, giving Kinoulton II a well deserved 63 run victory. POPLARS Home 12th May Kinoulton 2nd XI secured 2 wins from 2 games with solid performance against Poplars at home. On a day of rain the game was reduced to 40 overs aside. Winning the toss, Kinoulton asked Poplars to bat. With the players on and off due to the rain, tight all round bowling restricted the visitors to 79 for 7 off 40 overs. All the bowlers had good figures with Sam Jennings 10-6-10-2, Brian Lloyd 10-3-14-1, James Linley 6-1-20-2, Bertie Marriott 10-5-16-2 and Tom Bradshaw 4-0-6-0 making it difficult going for the Poplar batsman. In reply, Dave Richards and Tony Bradshaw put together a winning opening partnership of 64, Dave Richards scoring 25 and Tony Bradshaw 19. But as the rain closed in a dash for the final 16 runs saw 4 quick wickets fall, but Kinoulton secured the win with a total of 80 for 5 wickets. BELVOIR III Away 19th May Kinoulton 2nd XI suffered a comprehensive defeat at the hands of Belvoir III away at Knipton. Belvoir III batted first. A number of catches were dropped and this allowed J Cipley of Belvoir to amass 123 not out as Belvoir III scored an impressive 217 for 4 wickets from 45 overs. In reply Kinoulton suffered a blow when Tony Bradshaw retired hurt after scoring 13 with a torn calf muscle. Sam Jennings then lead a swift run chase with a quick fire 56, that included 11 fours and a six but was out with the score on 110, clearly Sam does not like tiring himself with running between the wickets. Unfortunately the next 5 wickets all fell with the score on a 111 (unlucky single Nelson for Kinoulton) and the innings closed at 111 for 9. This was Kinoulton’s first defeat after winning the first two fixtures of the season HOVERINGHAM Home 26th May Kinoulton 2nd XI suffered a second successive defeat at the hands of a quality Hoveringham II side. Hoveringham II came into this game with 3 wins from the first 3 fixtures, with all victories comprehensive results. Hoveringham won the toss and asked Kinoulton to bat on a wicket offering assistance to the bowlers. Impressive tight bowling from the two opening bowlers restricted Kinoulton to 35 for 1 off the first 18 overs. The tight bowling started to take its toll as three wickets fell for two runs and Kinoulton progressed to 37 for 4 off 23 overs. Chris Evans tried to take the attack to Hoveringham, but he was out for 23 as Kinoulton failed to break the shackles imposed by the bowlers. An entertaining 10 from James Linley push Kinoulton to a total of 89 all out, the highest total Hoveringham II has conceded this season. In reply, Hoveringham scored quickly despite fairly tight bowling from all the bowlers with their opening batsman P Lewis punishing any slight error in line or length on his way to a score of 47. Bertie Marriott tied down one end and ended with figures of 5-2-7-2 but Hoveringham reach the 90 runs for the win in 19th over. Kinoulton now have played four with two wins and two losses.
